Men's Chelsea Boots | ASOS vs Topman | Brand Battle

Who makes the best men’s Chelsea boots: ASOS or Topman?
It’s the battle of the brands! I’ll be putting them up against each other and reviewing several Chelsea boot factors: price; style; comfort; grip; flexibility.

Well done, man. One more criterion I would add: durability. Which is going to last longer? It’s not something you can decide out of the box, but definitely a consideration for something like a Chelsea, which can be worn so often. Which is going to wear out sooner? That’s a major consideration.

Brother. You really need to learn more about shoe quality. Both are lackluster but the ASOS one is much better.

You may know which one looks better in the eye, hence why you give the ASOS boot 1 point for style, but you are really off the mark on the rest.
In terms of comfort, you are being mislead by your own physical condition here, judging on the brief shots towards your feet on the walk, you most likely have a high arch for your feet. People have high arch generally need little or no support to absorb shocks that they receive from walking, and they feel most comfortable when wearing slippers or being barefooted. Due to the fact that both pairs use a synthetic sole to cut cost, the only way to increase comfort(provide more shock absorption) is to increase the thickness of the sole, while the effect is minimal, it is still noticeable for anyone who doesn’t have a high arch. The fact that you feel more comfortable in the Topman one from the get go is a tell-tale sign that they are worse. If you really want comfort, go to your cobbler and ask them to apply an extra rubber(Topy) underneath, it costs 15 – 25 dollars.
Flexibility, no leather should feel that flexible from the get go, with exception of baby calf leather or light weight goat leather, but you would be hard press to find any on shoes that cost less than 100 quids. All leather soften up and stretch a bit as you wear them, a sturdy and tight fit is a sign of well fitting boot, a rigid feel on foot is not a bad thing, unless you have high arch, again…
While I am unable to have a close look and feel for the leather upper, I can still tell the leather Topman uses are absolute rubbish, they look awful would not wear well at all.
Grip. Just go to a cobbler and ask for Topy, you will thank me. Not even the most prestigious leather sole shoes could provide enough grip if you intend to wear them in rainy condition or slipper surface. I personally own a pair of ASOS which features the exact same sole as yours, and can confirm the grip is nonexistent, well almost. But I can assure you the cheap half rubber you got in the Topman one won’t help much either when you encounter a polished marble floor… And once again, if you have a high arch, half rubber across the ball area of foot(like you see on the Topman)may work for you and actually provide extra grip, but for anyone else who has a different foot profile it would deem as useless.

My advice: ditch the Topman, they cost less for a good reason.

Hi Robin your link for the topman shoes is no longer working …. do you remember which model of topman you were reviewing ? thanks

  13. Kenny Ong on May 13, 2020 at 2:40 am

The Asos ones are on sale for about $36 at the moment and considering his opinions at $90, I’ll probably try to pick one up since they’re about half the price (with shipping).

  19. Charles Gregory on May 13, 2020 at 2:50 am

how about build of the shoe? quality of the leather? how will the shoes age? how long do they last? these are probably the most important aspects when comparing budget shoes…

  20. Bằng Đinh Kim on May 13, 2020 at 2:51 am

    Juke boots

  24. Julio Godoy on May 13, 2020 at 2:54 am

I don’t really agree with you Robin. These two pairs of Chelsea boots are of two completely different types. The ASOS boots have a thicker sole than the Topman boots. Therefore they should be used in winter time because of the thicker sole. If the Topman boots received more points, it’s because of the warmer climate during the testing because they have a thinner sole.
Nonetheless thank you for your videos and reviews.
