pfff… from now on I will not even talk to anyone that doesn’t meet my stitching density standards…

Thank you. Love the video. So much fun to learn about the details of craftsmanship and the quality of fine shoes.

I hope this to be the new trend as fast-fashion fades and a return to quality not quantity reigning supreme once again.

I must say I’d rather have a few pairs of great shoes than many pairs of just ok shoes. They will last, feel better on, wear better and look better too. I have shoes in my closet that are 25+ years old and still look like new. I keep shoe trees in them always. Polish them – even if I don’t wear them, every 4-6 months and I enjoy the knowledge I’ve saved from having to buy new shoes to replace them. Sure I have a lot of shoes, but I love them. But shoes – unlike sneakers – last for decades. Sneaker rubber starts to break down and the linings disintegrate over time, even when not being worn. Leather does not. It stays true years after year. And don’t forget you can always buy a tremendous pair of fine-quality, leather shoes for 1/10 the original price, not always but often, on eBay or at a fine aftermarket retailers like a Crossroads Trading Co., at least here in California. Look around your local area for shops. Otherwise save up and buy fewer pairs and wear them longer instead. Slow fashion rules! #slowfashion 👍

Please keep it up and thank you again!

    Best wishes,

    PN

I have a question about this video and your channel in general. I graduated from university a few years ago and now that I have some frontline experience, I’m starting to look for more corporate and professional jobs further up in my field. I’m used to business casual as the standard of dress for my current job, but I’m trying to "dress for the job you want", as they say.

My trouble is that, although I love the way the clothing looks, I still don’t feel "at home" in them. Do you have any advice on starting your professional attire journey without feeling overdressed or out of place?

I just found your channel and it’s been a lot of help so far!

    Cheers!

Looks like a simple dress shoe.

  5. TomT on May 17, 2020 at 2:53 am

waffle waffle waffle. Everything is said in at least 2, perhaps 3 different ways. Save my time by reducing the waffle.

Thank you Mr. Allison for being so kind. You are not, as i see it, being unfair to those of us who are not wealthy as some. You offer options in various price ranges, and you explain the differences without being condescending.

I am going to save some money, purchase a few pairs of great shoes. It never really mattered to me, the differences between shoe makers, or quality. I’ve been educated!

  7. XFXR XMXT on May 17, 2020 at 3:03 am

Mind blowing. I just buy 25.00 cheap dress shoes. Fake shiny leather all pvc. It’s crazy. Rich people have out of this world possibilities and taste. I wish I could afford them

  8. Hélio Pires on May 17, 2020 at 3:04 am

i think the second is by a good margin the best for the price!

  9. Dermiitti on May 17, 2020 at 3:04 am

Will the highest quality leather last longer?

  10. addi wei on May 17, 2020 at 3:04 am

He didnt polish the AE so it’s not a fair comparison to start with. Seems biased to me.

  11. Eldon Triggs on May 17, 2020 at 3:06 am

Only black cap toe oxfords I’ve ever owned are the ones the Army provided. I need to check and see who made those, I still have a pair of them somewhere.

  12. Scott Madis on May 17, 2020 at 3:07 am

09:24 …."higher proRIFeration rate"?? Was that supposed to be ‘proliferation’ or ‘perforation’? And "rate"?? I’m confused.

  13. MacClellandMan on May 17, 2020 at 3:07 am

    Factory shoes? Even my footmen wear bespoke. Pfff. (-;

  14. Mike Wingert on May 17, 2020 at 3:08 am

Edward Green on Jermyn Street is completely first class for ready to wear shoes. If you can’t afford John Lobb bespoke (not to be confused with the ready to wear shoe company John Lobb which is nothing to do with the bespoke company of that name) or George Cleverley of Princes Arcade then Edward Green is the place to go.

I’m perfectly happy with my Allen Edmonds Strands because I am 17 years old yet more fashionable than everyone in my area, I just need to get some Saphir and shine them up as well as shoe trees

  18. Tim Huffman on May 17, 2020 at 3:12 am

Thank You Sir. I just learned a lot. What about the interior of the shoe and its finish? Have you done a video on that?

  19. D A on May 17, 2020 at 3:12 am

Finesse. You use it often enough to convince me that you lack complete understanding of the creation of a shoe. You specifically call out stitch counts; leather properties (ie thickness, etc) don’t matter? You say they all present excellent values at their price point; you didn’t make the case and certainly couldn’t because of your exhaustive use of "finesse". Finally, you make absolutely no mention of fit with regards to various lasts. Bottom line: if one maker’s last fits me better than another, wouldn’t I choose the better fit all things equal? BTW: nobody I know uses hair tonic….join us in the real world.

  20. Ninten dont But do on May 17, 2020 at 3:14 am

Didnt see enough to say i would pay over double for those other shoes in any way. The edmonds are just the best bang for the buck and when you have worn them out send them to bedos leatherworks and get all of that hidden stitching and features and you will still be well cheaper than paying 1300 for sure 🙂

  21. deemdoubleu on May 17, 2020 at 3:14 am

I liked them so much I bought two.

  22. English and Ethics for Slovak kids - Marek Jemala on May 17, 2020 at 3:14 am

Buy decent shoes for 80 bucks and send 320 bucks to poor, and do not waste your money and time!

She married the shoes. Bangs the pool boy’s Donkey.

  24. Dale Jones on May 17, 2020 at 3:15 am

Pretty informative video. However, as an Allen Edmonds fan (and since I can’t afford $1k for a single pair of shoes), I’d like to see a video comparison of the different AE cap toe oxfords. Compare the AE Park Avenue vs. AE Bond Street cap toe vs. AE Hopkinson cap toe.

  25. Rick Rogers on May 17, 2020 at 3:17 am

Kirby’s taste in writing implements is as good as his taste in shoes.

  26. Sigkeeper1 on May 17, 2020 at 3:17 am

In 1990 when I turned 40 my mother gifted me a pair of Allen Edmond wing tips that cost $175.00 at the time. I still have them in excellent condition in a pair of cedar shoe trees. After watching this video I feel as if my self esteem has been shot. Maybe its time to go back to Cole Haan….or…way back to Converse All Stars

  27. Doc Moriarti on May 17, 2020 at 3:18 am

Hey Kirby, I enjoyed this video very much. Do you know wether GG uses the same leather for the uppers on their classic line as they use on the shoe you just reviewed? Kind regards Doc

  28. Rajesh Rajendran on May 17, 2020 at 3:18 am

    Hi Kirby,

I’ve been watching your videos for quite sometime and I really like the way in which you go into the details of the product which you review. I really liked this video and I must say that I’ve been educated well now to explain the difference now to my friends, and what to look for while purchasing a good shoe.

Please do a comparison review of oxfords Carmina and Meermin shoes for our understanding, as there is a good price difference between both the brands. It would be educating to all of us, as many of my friends are giving good comments about Meermin.

  29. Erik Wagner on May 17, 2020 at 3:19 am

Thanks for the informative video. I’ve had the Park Ave for years, several shell cordovan Alden’s, shell cordovan boat shoes, some Church’s, Ferragamo, Gucci’s, and now I’ve thought about a bespoke pair or two

Could you do a video on the attribute of the various bespoke brands that can be sourced in the US. I do not want to risk sending measurements to England, unless a representative is in the US. Perhaps there are good bespoke US brands also.

Please knock the person who added the wording to the video in the head. Everything was spot-on, except the narration. It gives your video less validity, since 95% of the words are misspelled.

  32. Diego Conde on May 17, 2020 at 3:21 am

I’m a shoe and western boots lover. I have about 50 to 60 pairs of boots and shoes but my knowledge about craftsmanship have gone to the top with your wonderful video.👍👍

  33. JayStar T on May 17, 2020 at 3:25 am

Just letting you know that price doesn’t guarantee best. And this is true. Just take care of your shoes and they will last a lifetiem

  34. masso45able on May 17, 2020 at 3:26 am

You could have at least shined the Allen Edmonds before the comparison.

  37. Joel Byer on May 17, 2020 at 3:28 am

Being that we all are in quarantine, I DO have the time to study stitch density.

  38. Thomas Degroat on May 17, 2020 at 3:29 am

Imagine spending $1300 on something so boring. I could never.

And like, eat the rich or whatever.

  39. HU Music Lab on May 17, 2020 at 3:29 am

Hmmm, my Park Aves have a larger cap on the toe and definitely pass the pencil test for sculpturing. 1.5 fingers. . The main difference seems to the the lower instep, 360 welt and comparatively inferior leather. The one that Kirby has just reinforced inconsistency in AE manufacturing and QC. I also like Crockett and Jones Hallam. Why doesn’t Kirby cover or even mention C&J much?

  40. Blake Moore on May 17, 2020 at 3:29 am

Me before the video: they’re all exactly the same

Me afterwards: wow those Allan Edmonds look like trash…they’re all so different, what idiot would think these are all the same shoes?

  41. Victor Olotu on May 17, 2020 at 3:30 am

    Allen Edmonds shoes are overrated.

imagine Shaq shoes 1200 ones will cost him 10k for his big clown feer

  43. Mark Anstrom on May 17, 2020 at 3:37 am

You know, all those details are nice, but for that kind of money, it should go without saying that of *course* I can easily get a pair to fit my feet in a size 10 A.

Allen Edmonds fit. That makes them better than every other shoe manufacturer that doesn’t bother to offer a full range of widths.

  44. bigliftm on May 17, 2020 at 3:37 am

yeah right i will wear $1300 sho3s and then go to my work on a building construction site..

This is a high, high quality comment section. This comment section has incredible stitch density, and without a doubt was oak tanned by Germans.
