8 Ways To Wear Khaki Pants | Chinos With Boots, Loafers & Sneakers
Khaki pants are an absolute essential for any wardrobe. And like most staple menswear pieces, there are limitless ways to style them. In today’s video, I’m showing you eight ways to wear khaki pants, ranging from ultra-casual to dressed up, and paired with boots, loafers, and sneakers.
KHAKIS V. CHINOS: THE DIFFERENCE?
Khakis and chinos are terms that often get used interchangeably – only they aren’t the same thing. It’s a lot like how we often use brand names to identify certain items, like Q-tips for cotton swabs or Kleenex for tissues.
So what’s the difference when it comes to khakis vs. chinos? A lot has to do with material and construction.
Chinos, or chino pants, are made with a lightweight cotton or cotton blend fabric and have visible stitching, which gives them a more finished, formal and dressy look.
Khakis, or khaki pants, are made with a heavier weight cotton fabric. The stitching on khaki pants is hidden. Khakis are typically thought of as more casual because of the sturdier fabric.
But what about khaki chinos?
This is what has thrown more than one person for a loop. Khaki, in addition to being a style of pant, is also a color. It comes from the Hindi-Urdu word for “dust” – completely unrelated to any type of trouser.
So when it comes to khaki chinos, here’s an explanation: khakis aren’t chinos, but chinos are sometimes khaki!

Great looks as usual! I love chinos because of their versatility but I’ve found I usually feel more comfortable wearing darker ones to keep the attention higher up. I guess khaki/beige pants work fine in the summer for me too though! I liked looks 3 through 5 best by the way.

Great video, Brian. Purchased a pair of the Bonobos Chinos in the Tailored fit. I got an inseam of 28. The alternative was 30 which I knew would be too long. The bottom of the pants barely cover the top of the shoe. Noticed in your video you had a slight break. By the way, the sales person said the length was perfect and “this isn’t 2005”. Thoughts on inseam length?

I am fair skinned so the grey over khaki wouldn’t look good on me. I do think for guys over 40, myself included, the prep look is a great business casual look and just a personal casual style. No pleats though!

I’ve been at a loss to explain why I love this channel but I think I’ve figured it out. Brian has perfected the art of subtle style; being stylish without having to resort to the ‘look at me!’ approach such as too many accessories, too many buttons undone (a.k.a., the Alpha M), and so on.
