We are going to have butler service at Montego Bay.  You have an older video that says that tips Butler Service is not included.  It was my understanding that is was.  If it isn’t, we want to be prepared.  Will they take American $’s or do we need convert at the airport? If we bring an extra bag, the money is for the airlines or the airport? How much do you suggest for private car transportation from Airport to Sandals.  $20.00?  Thank you!

A tip goes a long way. You can get personal requests not included in your package just by tipping and suggesting. We had a personal bar and lounge chair setup on the beach at night candles rose petals champagne just by asking.

Tip generously. You see the poverty on the ride from the airport to the resort. Gratuity is not factored into these people’s incomes. They live in poverty. Tip them. Sandals pro’s know palming a guy a five makes a friend for your whole stay. Tip these people. Trust me. They have families.

Well, I arrive on a Friday. Doh!

Thank you! We are first timers to Sandals & Sandals Montego Bay and have reservations for May 2020. Not tipping is so not the norm for us, so it will be strange, but we sure don’t want to have anyone lose a job because of it. Do we tip a concierge?? We’re staying in a Club level room, so have a concierge, and want to do the right thing. Thanks!

How do you get or contact Club Mobay, to make your experience easier? I’m going to Sandals Ochi in January 2020 for our 20th anniversary and I don’t want any extra or unnecessary complications!

We never forget clips to secure our towels. It’s a small thing but Soo nice to keep your towels in place! Your welcome. Love your videos.

Our resort had themed nights back in 1990. It would have been nice to have a listing for those nights, prior to arrival, because it was difficult to put outfits together. Back then we didn’t have email, but it would be a definite perk now to have the daily activities, especially theme nights, emailed prior to departure. Or, a list of all likely theme nights, so you can pick and choose which you’d participate in without overpacking.

We never keep to ourselves. Although we’re not the most outgoing people, at Sandals we always strike up a conversation with another couple at the bar before dinner, at the fire pit in the evening, or whenever an opportunity presents itself. We’ve met many wonderful people at Sandals and love to hear where they’re from, etc.

Also, we never reserve a pool chair. This is probably the #1 complaint at ALL (not just Sandals) resorts. There are many who wake early to throw a towel and a magazine on a pool chair to "reserve" it for them the entire day (even tho it’s supposedly prohibited), then don’t show up for hours. I have found if we go later (11, noon, or 1 pm) we can usually find a nice comfortable chair vacated by someone that went to the pool at 9 am. Also, we never spend ALL DAY at the pool – best way to ruin a vacation is to get burned and suffer for days afterwards. We usually find shade after an hour or two of sun.

What do you consider a moderate amount when it comes to carrying cash?

  14. Blackjack691 on June 9, 2020 at 6:37 am

I was told that the only people who get tipped at Sandals are the butlers. Is this true?

  15. Jim Bay on June 9, 2020 at 6:41 am

I have tried to make dinner reservations but have been told they have to be made on site. Any advice? ( Royal Caribbean, Jamaica) Thanks.

What is your opinion on getting the VIP service to get through Immigration in Jamaica?  I saw a video a visitor post how they get you there so much faster without standing in a line. My wife is nervous going out of the country for the first time. Thought this might ease her nerves.

Great tips and all true. We’ve visited Sandals 14 times and will continue to do so. Although not the cheapest vacation, we feel it’s well worth the money! One thing we always do is book the least expensive room. Regardless of what you pay for a stay, unless you have butler service, you’ll receive the same service, eat the same food and enjoy the same activities as someone paying for a more expensive room.

Hi! Why do you think cash is safer than using a credit card (you mentioned this about the airport and paying for bags)?

  23. Andrew Davitz on June 9, 2020 at 7:00 am

What would you consider a moderate amount? I am booking a vacation to the Ochi resort for my honeymoon and I am just wondering.

Some good tips here. We’re Sandals veterans and agree with a lot of your suggestions. If you are thinking of returning to Sandals, Beaches, or Grande Pineapple make sure you sign up to the loyalty program, Sandals Select. Returning guests get a special dinner, and during Reunion week extra tours are added to the itinerary for loyal guests. The points add up, and a free week is worth having!
When negotiating with Sandals you need to ensure that the rep on the phone has the authority to grant your request. We decided to add our free week on to the end of our already booked vacation but were told that we had to have taken the vacation first, meaning we would have to go home and then book a separate trip. I pointed out that Butch Stewart probably would agree with me and asked them to check. I called again the next day and we got our wish.

How do you get Travel Protection Plan?

  26. Laurel Bhairosingh on June 9, 2020 at 7:02 am

My husband and I always get our souvenirs during excursions outside of the resorts. Whilst the resort shops are chock full of beautiful souvenirs and you can charge everything to your room (no stress!) we have found that they tend to be cheaper at local tourist stops and malls. Also, we always book our next Sandals vacation at the onsite Loyalty office. This way we lock in great deals and have flexibility to change dates if we can’t get off work…

In a previous video you mention tipping of butlers, and in this you mention no tipping. Is the "no tipping" comment except for butlers at the end of a trip?
