thank you so much for telling me the difference between the two styles of souls. Most of the shoes I would wear have stitching on the bottom of the shoe, so I’m able to replace the shoe souls than having to get another shoe. thanx

leather. definitely leather. I dance a lot and you need the shoes to be able to slide and the rubber doesn’t allow that. the only problem is that I can’t find any leather sole shoes. EVERYTHING IS RUBBER!!!!!!!! help me out, please!
p.s. I live in Canada and the weather in winter doesn’t seem to be much of a problem. I have grown out of my old shoes and can’t find new ones that suit my needs.

Great video, very dynamic and to the point. I just bought some magnanni shoes with a rubber sole, but they’re stitched! So I’m happy about that.

Leather all the way. No compromises about fashion and quality when you have a choice

  7. Mario Portillo on March 23, 2020 at 9:34 pm

dud rubber no for me sorry but leather soul first

  8. William Sheehan on March 23, 2020 at 9:35 pm

Leather is too slippery and it’s too noisy when walking

  9. Elias Bardis on March 23, 2020 at 9:36 pm

Leather for my dance shoes, i need the sloppiness

  10. Tudorinc on March 23, 2020 at 9:36 pm

Leather – slippery, wears out – heck – even the Beatles named an album
Rubber Soul – not Leather Soul.

  11. Hayden Martin on March 23, 2020 at 9:38 pm

If you have issues with sliding around on leather soles, lightly, *LIGHTLY* sandpaper the bottom of the sole to give it more traction

  12. Robert Goodman on March 23, 2020 at 9:40 pm

I’ll be frank, I’d wear leather-soled shoes but I find that I slip on them in daily wear on wet surfaces and they don’t absorb shock on my feet as well as rubber-soled shoes do. Problematically, brands like ECCO don’t have the ability to be re-soled because the shoes are not designed with a Goodyear Welt. Also, and some might find this noticeable, but rubber soles make a whole lot less noise when walking into a room, especially on a hard surface — stone, concrete, hardwood, etc., and also on an elevated computer floor. A rubber sole is a whole lot quieter to walk into a room. Leather soles tend to click and slap a hard surface. Leather should definitely be worn for very formal occasions, but to add a rubber surface to to a leather formal shoe likely kills it. I added a rubber cover to a leather-soled pair of paddock boots that I use for horseback riding because they would last longer in a horse stall (equine urine eats away leather fast) and also because barn floors and aisles are often made of concrete and I didn’t want to slip there. So in sum, rubber soled shoes for overall comfort and safety, leather-soled shoes for formal occasions and places where noise and safety are not an issue.

I like the rubber soles, leather looks great, but is often slippery and gets stiff in cold weather.

  16. Jp Jp on March 23, 2020 at 9:44 pm

Considering that I wear my shoes pretty much every day, I prefer rubber because I want it to last longer and not wear out as easily.

  17. Uday Saketh on March 23, 2020 at 9:44 pm

No offense but when a shoe is worn out usually people get a new shoe if its cheap but if its a expensive shoe it will
Live maybe 4 to 5 years. So it doesn’t matter if it worn out and i prefer rubber
In party’s and leather in office

The one thing you did not mention is the health factor. I state this info from a movie documentary that I watched about the little known or suppressed facts about grounding. Since the advent of rubber soles the population has literally exploded in ill health. That is because we do not connect to the earth anymore. Grounding yourself will relieve inflammation throughout the human body. Inflammation is always at the onset of every disease. There was very little illness among the native Indians that wore moccasins. Since the advent of shoes we have been screwed. Think about it logically We are of the earth. The earth vibrates at the same hertz as our own bodies. We ground our houses yet not ourselves. Why do u think people get hit by lightning.
If u don’t believe what I am saying watch the movie documentary * Heal for Free* On GAIA. There is proof of this. And it has helped me if u cant get outside in bare feet for some reason put your feet up on your bathroom facet when you bath as I said all pipes get grounded. Try it because if we start getting widespread healing happening this will be the best breaking news since the advent of penicillin. Im a very sane person watch the movie and check it out what could it hurt except maybe saving you millions on drs bills!! I grounded for 45 min and passed the gallstone that they were doing surgery for. It works try it!

asmr dudes either walk on leather or live in bliss

  20. JumboJetPilot on March 23, 2020 at 9:50 pm

My cordswainer offers an optional woven Kevlar cap that they’ll add to the soles. It retains the leather sole and low profile, but far better resists wear and tear and gives you the traction that smooth leather doesn’t.

  21. jsteiger2228 on March 23, 2020 at 9:51 pm

Goodyear welted construction w/ rubber soles for the win. Leather soles are nonsense – pure nonsense.

  22. Jerry Kinnin on March 23, 2020 at 9:53 pm

I’m a boot guy. Dress cowboy boots steel toe construction boots
The best rubber soles are sewn on
And with proper care can double the life of the boot. With a resole.
Question. Should your belt match your shoes? What should your socks match? That’s the main reason I wear dress/cowboy boots. Thanks for the videos.

Rubber for grip, flexibility and protection from elements.

  24. Kapil Pruthi on March 23, 2020 at 9:55 pm

Sir pu sole is better or tpr plz suggest

  25. Andrew Lin on March 23, 2020 at 9:55 pm

For better traction, you actually want less surface area. It seems counterintuitive but think of the actual surface area of a pick up truck tire vs a sports cars tires. Less of the rubber actually touch the surface with the grooves with a trucks tire.

    Leather all the way.

  27. B M G on March 23, 2020 at 10:00 pm

Ive had leather soles on $240 shoes. After standing on a hot grill in a park I walked on fine graveled, firm ground and they ripped open (small rips) in 3 places. The shoes were only 5 months old. This was all with hindsite. Sowed on rubber is supperior with a goodyear welt from my experience. Who is going to check if you have leather soles anyway

  28. Maher AlMahdy on March 23, 2020 at 10:02 pm

Leader is the only choice of course , schick and durable . Rubber is a Bad Investment simply . Thx

  29. Michael Moore on March 23, 2020 at 10:05 pm

Like he said- If you can find thin, Goodyear welted rubber soles, you may have the best of both worlds. Personally, I think leather soles look great- when they’re brand new. But after they get scuffed up enough to have decent traction, non-casual rubber will look better, IMHO.

  30. Stan Lee on March 23, 2020 at 10:05 pm

Just because you see stitches doesn’t mean the sole is actually stitched on. A lot of shoes have fake stitching. My Johnston Murphy’s look like a real stitched shoe but the stitches on the sole don’t match the stitches on the top.

  31. david ellis on March 23, 2020 at 10:05 pm

I’m a professor and I need a shoe that provides comfort and functionality. I like leather soles, but having grip and a little height is more beneficial to my environment. Of course, I’m not always in this environment; so, I do get to dress up and wear a nice leather sole dress shoe.

  32. deadlydorock on March 23, 2020 at 10:06 pm

hey Antonio! I want a heel that makes the clicking sound….i don’t like the rubber part of the sole. My shoe repair shop said they don’t see those hard soles much anymore….all he could add on was some cleats. A nice leather dress shoe making noise when i walk down the hall……I just can’t find them.

Leather is my favorite Beatles album

  36. Henning Gustafsson on March 23, 2020 at 10:12 pm

Here in Scandinavia are rubber soles recommended much because of the weather and the seasons. My favourite boots have rubber soles sewn to the leather soles.

  37. markalexander774 on March 23, 2020 at 10:15 pm

Leather for dress shoes, rubber for everything else.
Leather will always look classier than rubber. The main downside to leather is obviously the grip. The other downside is that they start to look like shit after only a couple of wears, although even worn in a little, they still look classier than rubber. Something about the smooth flat service looks classier than a black ridged or bumpy surface.
Rubber soles generally look more rugged, and therefore less classy. They are perfect for leather boots. Dainite soles on a pair of leather boots is perfect. The big Vibram lug style rubber soles should really only be used for work boots or hiking boots.

  38. Mario Portillo on March 23, 2020 at 10:15 pm

I am a salsa dancer professionally so leather soul for me better

  39. Johnny Blaze on March 23, 2020 at 10:16 pm

Leather soles all the way with rubber sole protectors and heel taps professionally added. High end shoes most often come with leather soles. It’s too expensive to constantly resole them entirely when the soles wear out. With sole protectors, you can easily strip it off when it’s close to wearing out and put another one on without having to spend a lot of money.

  40. Mark Francis on March 23, 2020 at 10:18 pm

Is it possible to goodyear welter your boots tho

  41. bioxbiox on March 23, 2020 at 10:18 pm

I am a pro-rubber. The good pair of rubber soles shoes in our days is indistinguishable from the classic leather alternatives. So now, we are dealing not with the look of the footwear but with the functionality. Even in an upper managerial position, I have to stay at the office for 10+ hours and walk between different departments, sometimes in different buildings. On many occasions, I need to join an unexpected meeting in the city or even urgently to take a flight. This means that I need something with softer soles, excellent grip, weatherproof for rain, snow, and comfortable enough so my feet to be able to survive till the next day. Most of all, I personally detest the slippery "function" in the leather soles. Many of the public buildings and offices I visit have polished granite or some sort of glazed flooring. I literary change my walk pattern when I visit such places with my classic Saint Crispin. Just imagine if James Bond wore them on a mission. His career would end very shortly, on the first run on a rooftop.

  42. Ricky Roop on March 23, 2020 at 10:19 pm

I’ve never been able to afford leather sole shoes. One day I’ll be there.

  43. Charles Mitchell on March 23, 2020 at 10:19 pm

i replaced several leather soles with rubber proctors for a simple reason: snow and rain. I was sliding all over the place and sprained an ankle in leather soles. You can plan for the snow but often times rain catches you off guard

  44. Dana Bennett on March 23, 2020 at 10:20 pm

Mmm good ? Now for me i have (3) pair of leather sole dress shoes, @nd (2) pair of rubber sole shoes!! As i was told the best dressed man has a little of everything in his wardrobe!!😴

  45. Buffalo Todd on March 23, 2020 at 10:22 pm

With my back? Rubber all day. I picked up a pair of Rockport wingtips, and Adidas designed the sole. So comfortable.

  46. Miguel B. on March 23, 2020 at 10:23 pm

    What a stupid question.

  47. Sting on March 23, 2020 at 10:23 pm

In winter leather is better unless you want a serious static shock on carpet but all around leather hands down.

  48. Raymond Greenwood on March 23, 2020 at 10:23 pm

For me it depends on the occasion and how much walking I will be doing.

  49. ArchdukeJames on March 23, 2020 at 10:24 pm

Leather sole is so much more elegant, but absolutely impractical for the rain and snow. Therefore, I have a number of rubber soled shoes that I wear for any day that it rains, snows, or has any sort of muddy condition. Dry days for leather, wet days for rubber, and dear GOD never wear leather soles on ice!

  50. Rudy G on March 23, 2020 at 10:25 pm
