The Awesomist Reviews: Hickies! (The no tie shoe laces)

In this episode of The Awesomist Reviews we take a look at Hickies, the rubber alternative to shoe laces. These little elastic bands clip together to provide a no-tie alternative to shoe laces. Simple slip the Hickies into place, connect the two sides and instantly upgrade any pair of shoes into awesome.

If you want to buy some hickies you can find them on the hickies website or at vat19. This video is not sponsored by Hickies. I just hate tying my shoes and it seems no matter how many knots I put in my laces the damn things find a way to come untied at the worst possible moments. I have been wearing Hickies for a little over a month and will hopefully never have to go back to traditional laces.

I had some for a few months Unfourantely they DO NOT last….eventually after they stretch over time they SNAP! Not fun when your In the middle of your 4 mile run! Changed to lock laces! So much better! I wouldn’t recommend hickies…..go with LOCK LACES!

Tired of tying your kid shoestrings over & over again? Don’t have time to keep switching the no tye strings from shoe to shoe? Not every shoe goes with every outfit. Keep the shoe & the strings, Just add String Buddy!

  15. Hannda on April 6, 2020 at 8:13 pm

Anyone tried these on their hiking shoes? Snug enough for proper support?

  16. Jon Williams on April 6, 2020 at 8:15 pm

Bought a few sets of these a couple of years ago whilst in NYC. Good at the start but not very durable… After a couple of months they wear down the rubber and end up snapping. Little bit annoying if they snap whilst on a run, and quite dangerous if they go at the wrong time which may lead to injury.

Lace Latches are far superior to Hickies and all other elastic laces, Lace latches replace the bow knot in any static shoelace., they give the same secure fit every time, adjustable. You can wear Lace Latches latched or unlatched if you like the lose fit at any time. They last a lifetime. Glow in the dark and all colors available. Secure with just one finger!

I would like a couple sets but two sets are way more than the Nike’s I wear.
The price is so crazy that I cannot bring myself to buy them to try them. Hopefully your mom and dad are wealthy and they buy you anything you want to begin with.
Put a hickie on your foot if you have cash to burn!

    These seem interesting but
    Try "Lock laces."
They are stretchy, "no-tie" laces that work great with no B.S. and don’t look like you’re wearing your kids (Or wife/girlfriend’s) shoes.
Replace your old laces, trim to fit (they’re long enough for high tops or hikers and come in even longer length if needed), install the end clip and you’re done forever.
They don’t need to be "test fit" or broken in. No umpteen configurations to see "what works best." Tighten or loosen the slide lock in one, quick motion to tighten your shoes and you’re done. Perfectly adjust the fit of your shoe the first time, every time.
Just kick ’em off, no need to untie (Just loosen to put back on).
Simpler, good looking (especially on Sketchers, etc. Works on anything with laces but I wouldn’t put them on my Florshiems 😀 )
Inexpensive and comes in different colors and levels and secures your shoe with a perfect fit. The kids like them, too. Mine actually listen first time when I tell them to put on their shoes… LOL

I have been using Hickies for about half a year on two pairs of shoes and I still really like them! Occasionally they untie, which is annoying, and one single Hickie has snapped already. But there were more than enough extra Hickies in the package, so it wasn’t a problem! They fit very well, are comfortable, and I think they look good enough as well. I’ve only ever had one negative reaction, which was when a colleague exclaimed that they are for people who are too stupid to tie their own shoes. Needless to say, she’s a very nice person …
If there’s other similar alternatives I think that’s great! Shoe laces are such an archaic concept.

  25. AsianGuyJosh on April 6, 2020 at 8:24 pm

Don’t get these! They snap so easily…

  26. Courtney Gillespie on April 6, 2020 at 8:25 pm

I just got a few sets of these originally for my son’s tennis shoes that are constantly not tied (& I’m just tired of being the nagging mother lol). I ordered a few sets for him & some for my work shoes as well. I just got them and can’t wait to try them & see what my son thinks of them as well. Great video & thanks!

This is a pretty good review. I’d work on that initial 3 second greeting. And something about your intro song/text flying around doesn’t feel original. Just my 2 cents.

Does the sock ride up on the toes when slipping the shoe on? Anybody?

  33. Сюткин Валерий on April 6, 2020 at 8:33 pm

Was very dissapointed. It os one size…that what sux. On buttom i want tighter (as the all are) but on top i want loser but they all same size. They make my ultraboosts games of throans look like sousages cuz they are so tight. I want my shoe to be more open but they make them very narrow and now my shoe look like sousage that is rapped with a thread

What I would like to know is do they get to stretched out after a while . I like my sneakers a bit snug and not like I would have to stop and tighten them from sneaker being to lose .
    Thank you for sharing
