The Loake family has been producing fine, handmade men’s footwear for longer than anyone can remember.
Our premium Goodyear Welted shoes continue to be made in England and take eight weeks to produce. Some 130 skilled craftspeople, up to 75 shoe parts and approximately 200 different operations are involved. Only the very highest quality materials are used. This film gives you a unique insight into Loake and an intricate construction with origins that can be traced back over 300 years.

@ 4.12 clear SPRAY applied. Seems to resemble process of auto painting where a "Clear-coat" is used to obtain the gloss. Am I missing something? Would seem to suggest the re-color "patina" hand process is either a better process or compromising the original? Thoughts?
Man. Can’t believe they don’t mandate safety glasses. With all that wood flying every and things moving around. That’s crazy
There will always be a demand for quality
These shoes are very nice and fits me perfectly
Beautiful shoes, I bought a pair of Ashby tan in south Arica, love them, but they are rather hard, how long do they generally take to walk in.
My grandfather came from a generation who liked to dress properly when they went out. He wasn’t a wealthy man but he had a couple of made to measure suits, a couple of pairs of Loakes and a couple of pairs of Grensons. I got the bug and I’ve been buying Loakes for the past twenty or so years. They are amazing shoes.
Love handcrafted things , studied at cordwainers tech , doing leather goods design and manufacture , Jimmy Choo and Joseph Azagury made shoes for my then size 3 feet !
Great video & great shoes, but slightly deceptive no? There are quite a few stitching shots thrown in there and I understand that Loake has their uppers stitched outside the UK (India).
Очень красивая обувь просто шедевры
With such great history and craftsmanship. Loake shouldn’t have outsource their production in India/Bangladesh. To everyone out there who wishes to own a pair of Loake. Please do make make sure you buy the higher end of Loake. Cheaper/Lower end of Loake products are not made in UK,
Were great shoes untill it was made in UK… now i hardly find any shoes which says made in UK
… that beautiful upper wasted by sewing it and the welt to the ribbing .. there is a machine that sews the welt through the upper, liner and insole just like a handmade shoe is constructed ( holdfast ) that results in higher quality production welted shoes and boots although to my knowledge the machine is no longer in use…. fabricating a welted shoe without ribbing lasts much longer thus reducing the need for more production and less profit for shoe making companies.
The fabric side of ribbing is cemented to the insole edge while the hardened composite side of the ribbing is elevated vertically creating a wall in which to sew the welt, liner and upper to. Because the ribbing is cemented to the insole it loses its bond and breaks down over time compared to sewing the welt, upper and liner to the insole. In addition , the insole that the ribbing is affixed to is not high quality material and also breaks down and loses its resilience in a relatively short period of time. About four months ago I as resoling a good year welted oxford and noticed the ribbing was stitched to the insole and it was made in China. I commend the company for taking the extra time to secure the ribbing ( gemming ) to the insole. At least they understand the short comings of ribbing and try to improve upon its use. I am a shoe repairman and have been refurbishing leather goods, footwear and filling Orthopedic prescriptions for over 35 years. I work for Maselli Brothers Shoe and Leather Goods Repair in Pleasanton Ca. .
Best shoes (I like the 1880 series and I have 3 pairs), yet at best price also – especially Loake’s trouble-free factory repair services offering in the UK.
Great passion for shoes.
I have 10 pairs of Loakes brogues, 1 pair of Cricket and Jones, 1 pair Barkers – thats not counting simple oxfords, etc. I have ghad other brands over the years, but I find Loakes the best. I bought the first of those Loakes in the 80s, still have em, I love their shoes, they are without doubt amazing quality and stunning value. Thank you
#Loake Braemar brogues, excellent pair of shoe’s.
A large number of Loake shoes are made in India. However, that doesn’t mean that they are of inferior quality. The shoes have same leather, Goodyear welt, superb finish, only costs less in the manufacturing compared to UK.
these are so bloody uncomfortable, I’ve been wearing them 5 days now and they are killing my feet, they are so stiff, I hope they soften up soon I can’t stand much more of this
Good job!
I was here Pepega
I want to work in your country and my heart’s desire is to set up a company in Pakistan as well and every servant of Pakistan will like this thing
I just bought a pair of Loake Tarantula. excellent and beautiful.
The Best Leather comes from America…
love my loakes
I want to buy made in England. Not made in India. I would rather pick Barker over Loake
Are they sold in the USA and if so by whom? Also I wear a 12EEE do you make extra-wide shoes?
Surprised more people haven’t brought up the recent exposure of most of their lines being made in India including the 1880 line (which I believe only the uppers get made in India).
Regardless of quality, I’m sure most consumers who care about the finer details would be disappointed and look elsewhere for a shoe that’s genuinely made in England.
Would anyone else be able to shed a light on this?
I LOVE Loakes. To work were this video was filmed would make me the happiest person alive.
I’ve just brought myself a pair and I’m loving them. They might have been a bit more then I normally spend on shoes but now I’ve seen this video and read up on them I can see my money has been well spent, and I’ll never have to buy a new pair of black shoes again as I can just have them repaired. Fancy some nice brown ones next.
I’ve several pairs of Loake shoes and I love them. The craftsmanship is second to none and I highly recommend them.
Pervrst
I just purchased my first pair here in Australia from your 1880 line and l love them…
I’ve just purchased my first pair of Loakes, can’t wait to receive them. Fantastic attention to detail making these shoes, the video shows how much craftsmanship and skill goes into them. The current shoes I wear are a pair of Suede boots from Matalan which cost me around £20 so this is going to be quite a step up I think! In fact I’ve never had a really decent pair of shoes before so I am quite excited 🙂
Are the made in India Loake shoes (200 series?) of good quality that maybe a bit nearer to the Northants made ones?
Did it say “I hate people who buy out shoes” at the start?
This is a really well made film, love it!
Beautiful shoes and affordable.. thank you..
Beautiful shoes i’m defiantly going to buy a Pair.. thank you for the great video..
1880 is still made in UK?
After Doc Marten decided to discontinue their Affleck like of brogue boots, I’m turning to Loake now. Why? Because of Peter Capaldi and Doctor Who and I’d like a pair of boots like that. Spending $300 US on boots is not something I wish to do nor find joy in doing so. However, good boots will cost a lot. DM’s were the next best alternate, but why not go for the actual brand that the 12th Doctor wears? So with that said. Anyone have Loake coupons?
I can’t buy them. it says won’t ship to the U.S. why?
Made in India now, so dissapointed. Switch to Cheeney….
I used to love the 1880 line….
Really good brand film. Nicely directed
Such an art… Love it.
the man talking on here sounds like David Camaron
its me peter bullock good film
its not 100% Handmade ? most finishing and stiching is done by machine ?
love my Oxfords. Next on my list are the Brighton Loafers. Just need to convince the wife…..
We love Loake! Can we have permission to use this video in our blog please?
I love my Loake shoes. Loake one of the best….
