Anson Belts: https://ansonbelt.com/
Big thanks to Anson Belt & Buckle for supporting The Modest Man by sponsoring this video!

Have you ever wondered if you’re matching your belt with your shoes and other accessories properly? In this belt matching 101 video lessons, I’ll show you the two simple rules you need to know to match your shoes and belts like a style expert.

Here’s the thing about these rules: they’re super flexible, and you can totally break them to fit your personality and style preferences. But you have know the rules before breaking them. So here are the two rules about belt matching:

Rule #1: Match your leathers
Rule #2: Match your metals

In the video, I’ll show you a few different examples of how you can use these rules to match your belt, belt buckle, watch and shoes perfectly, every single time. I’ll also show you what to do when you don’t have a belt that really matches your shoes (like if you’re wearing blue or grey suede shoes, for example).

  4. Azulian on June 4, 2020 at 5:17 am

Which color belt to wear with grey (lighter shade) loafers?

  5. markmeson on June 4, 2020 at 5:18 am

Anson’s smallest straps are 1.25inch but you have also said that shorter men should not wear any belt above 1inch. I assume these are for taller men.

  6. Ricardo Lourizela on June 4, 2020 at 5:18 am

You don’t need your watch leather bracelet to match your belt and your shoes. Most of the times it looks like you’re trying a bit too hard. Shoes and belt should always match; your watch is an accessory – choose something you like (staying classy – case diameters under 40mm) and enjoy yourself.

  7. Kalieb Neiner on June 4, 2020 at 5:18 am

what kind of buckles are those?

  8. Sherman Bernard on June 4, 2020 at 5:20 am

  9. Bilderburger on June 4, 2020 at 5:23 am

Help!!! I have a gorgeous blue ostrich leather watch strap. Can I use black shoes with it ? Or is that stupid?

  10. Candi Soda on June 4, 2020 at 5:24 am

    Screw it lol..
Buys smart watch = changes watch face to match belt instead =P

  11. Lughnerson on June 4, 2020 at 5:24 am

Plan ahead when purchasing the belt, shoes, and watch. Plan to coordinate. Black and Silver are cool tones, Brown and Gold are warm tones.

  12. Roman Soldier on June 4, 2020 at 5:26 am

What if yout watch is two tone? Silver and gold, what kind of shoes and belt would be nice with that?

  13. Rob Beast on June 4, 2020 at 5:26 am

What is that sick navy blue polo you wearing? I need that ASAP

  14. Randywolf244 on June 4, 2020 at 5:26 am

I’m sorry to disagree with you and i hope you don’t take me as rude but your watch is not included in your rules. Your watch is considered to be it’s own separate entity. Meaning you have to match your metals on your buckle, ring, necklace etc, and you have to match your leathers on your belt, shoes etc. however, your watch is not included in this. you can wear gold jewelry with a silver watch or you can wear black shoes with a brown leather watch strap. the reason for this is that historically men only owned one watch, and it was the most expensive thing you owned.

on a separate but equally as important note though. it is extremely important to match your watch to itself. if your wearing a gold polished watch it is quite important to wear a gold polished buckle on the strap. the strap buckle needs to match in color and finish.

That navy blue polo with dark jeans and white ace marks… fire

  16. Leo on June 4, 2020 at 5:29 am

Should you apply the matching metals to sunglasses? I’d imagine that’d be getting pretty expensive as raybans here are roughly $285 Australian dollars.

  17. Don MacArthur on June 4, 2020 at 5:31 am

I only have one watch, silver band. I wear it with everything. No thinking required.

  18. Ferdinand Edillor on June 4, 2020 at 5:31 am

    I love your hair

  19. Cesar Mejia on June 4, 2020 at 5:31 am

Okay, what if you are wearing red driving mocs? … Can you just match your belt and watch to other colors of your outfit? Don’t want to wear red belt and watch band even if I could find them.

  20. Sahil Kumar on June 4, 2020 at 5:31 am

brock please make a video on hair styling , like your’s .

  21. Manuel Rocha on June 4, 2020 at 5:32 am

I’m not wearing a fake gold watch just so I can match. I can’t afford a real gold watch so I bought an all black Movado in hopes it works with everything. Hey! I’m on a budget. Don’t judge me.

Having a sponsor is fine. But letting the whole video become one long commercial for the sponsor is too much.

Missing from your hints is what woman like on men. I love men in shorts so long that they are STYLISH and TOPS are complementary. Your videos contain too much talk and not enough visual.

I’m on the budget so I’m doing the gift box they have. what type of buckles should I get?

  39. Kubensis on June 4, 2020 at 5:55 am

Is it ok to totally ignore it when it comes to watch leather? I have a navy ostrich strap, but black boots. I really love both, and I never will have anything but these boots probably, and the strap is also expensive, and again i love the color of any other strap. https://c2.staticflickr.com/2/1763/41505440010_e235516d28_z.jpg

Do you think the metal rule applies to sunglasses as well, e.g. if you have a gold sunglasses frame would you also need a gold buckle

  45. Review Me on June 4, 2020 at 6:03 am
